Founded in 2010, Tori Lawrence + Co. is a New England-based group of movement artists, musicians, filmmakers, and designers who embed innovative art into unconventional settings. Our performances examine how we are active participants in the construction of our intimate and global spatialities – guiding audiences into more active ways of perceiving and being present as they venture through space.
Our Company creates immersive site-specific dances, interdisciplinary performance installations, and dance films that explore the space between media and the relationship between body and environment. Working mainly in sites that are overlooked, forgotten, or abandoned, our projects inspire an imaginative and sustainable way of looking at, thinking about, and using space. Philadelphia Weekly describes our site-specific work as “poignant,” “stunning,” and “arresting.”
TL+ Co. has been presented nationally and internationally, including three site-specific project commissions by The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. We have recently been awarded artist residencies at Yaddo (NY), PLAYA (Oregon), Chez Bushwick (NYC), and BRUNAKRA (Sweden), funded by Lighton International Artists Exchange Program. Other residencies include: Djerassi Resident Artists Program (2017), Charlotte Street Foundation (2016-17), Lawrence Arts Center (2016), Dance Ireland (2014), and Budapest's Workshop Foundation (2013). We were guest artists at Franklin & Marshall College for the Fall of 2018, and are currently in residence at Middlebury College 2019-20. Our work has been presented by Philadelphia Dance Projects, Movement Research at the Judson Church, School for Contemporary Dance & Thought (Northampton, MA), Stockholm Screendance Festival, Screendance Africa, Agite y Sirva Screendance Touring Festival (Mexico City), Portland Maine Film Festival, Legion Arts/CSPS, and Cyprus International Film Festival, amongst others.
