Dr. Terry Jenoure, musician, writer, educator, and visual artist is a Western Massachusetts artist born and raised in the South Bronx, New York into a Puerto Rican and Jamaican family.  A professional violinist, vocalist and composer, she began music studies at the age of seven and attended the prestigious High School of Music and Art. She is a protégé of the Free Jazz Movement, and has performed and recorded with Archie Shepp, Leroy Jenkins, Joseph Jarman, Marion Brown, Andrew Cyrille, Lawrence “Butch” Morris, Henry Threadgill, Elliot Sharpe, John Carter, and a host of others. Featured over the years at major international venues, her 2014 performance work My Bronx, was a theatrical memoir that toured the National Theaters of Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia. Jenoure studied voice w/ famed Edward Boatner (Sonny Stitt’s father), who also coached Josephine Baker, Dinah Washington, and Jon Lucien among others. Close associations with Yusef Lateef & Ornette Coleman have shaped her philosophy toward sound & her career choices emphasizing musical autonomy.

Holding Masters and Doctoral degrees in Education and a B.A. degree in Philosophy, Dr. Jenoure was on the graduate faculty at Lesley University (Cambridge, MA) for 18 years, and has taught in the graduate schools at Antioch College, Goddard College and the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the areas of diversity training, music, interdisciplinary arts, and educational assessment.  She has been a keynote speaker at international conferences and has trained community leaders in the field of arts for social change in Mexico, India, Colombia and South Africa.  Terry has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and for three decades served as the Director of Augusta Savage Gallery at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
