Why ceramics?
Why tile?
Because I can express my vision in bold design and brilliant color. Ceramic tile is high touch - high relief is textural. Glazed ceramics capture a depth and subtlety of color like no other medium. My works are mostly high relief murals for the wall - permanently mounted or framed for hanging. They are focal points in homes, offices and public places. Abstract, realistic - I create in several different styles and a wide range of subject matter.
Most of my work is commissioned. I often implement designs taken from my client’s personal vision. A creative back and forth is common, with individuals and design teams of architects and designers. Also, I enjoy close relationships with several collectors - doctors, dentists, lawyers and other professionals. Works hang in public art locations, reception areas, private offices, and private homes.
I try to create a sense of place imagery that adds serenity and lets people in and maybe get lost in something beautiful - even for a few moments. Joyful and full of color and design, they are meant to lift the spirit. Frozen in time, they create a restful environment for many years to come.
Increasingly now, I also paint and frequently do studies for my ceramic murals in paintings or watercolors, as well as works in those media that stand alone.
My work received international recognition in the book “Handmade Tiles”, by Frank Giorgini. I was also featured as a contributing artist in the book, “Architectural Ceramics”, by Peter King.
I have been a state juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen since 2005, and my works are currently for sale at the League Retail Galleries.
I have had several television and radio interviews on the west coast and in New Hampshire. The Concord Monitor ran a featured article about me in 2006, and again in 2015.
Art galleries in California, New Hampshire, Texas, Arizona and Colorado have featured my work.

Two large (3' x 5') murals for a private home. Located on a barrier island, this client wanted to highlight his beach, local flora and certain wildlife. We worked assiduously to obtain a very particular palette which mirrored the light quality there. These were installed permanently with a cobalt blue 2" surround. The project began in late 2017 and was installed in the latter part of 2018.
