artful illusion

Steffi Greenbaum was a teacher of traditional wood and stone carving techniques, and also of modeling and constructing forms and figures as well as sculpted furniture in paper mache, at adult sculpture workshops in the Philadelphia area, 1967-1999.

In her own sculpture she arrranges largish human forms in a hardened smooth material (using soft white marble flour mixed with liquid acrylic).

Yet she alters other figures of similar 3-dimensionality by covering them in 2-dimensional acrylic landscapes, thereby limiting the modelled forms in their existence in space to that of silhouettes, just as a landscape painting denies the canvas its existence as a flat panel.

Tyler College of Fine Art of Temple University, B.F.A. and B.Sc.Ed. 1950; M.F.A. 1967.

Formerly member of New York Sculptors League, Tri-State Artists Equity, and Philadelphia Sculptors

Co-founded MaineSculptors.com with Clara Cohan to present professional sculpture exhibitions in Maine. The Lewis Gallery of the Portland Public Library featured nine Maine Sculptors invitational sculpture shows: 2003-2011.
