Sayon Camara Drumming

  • Maine

    ME

Institution/Business Type: Artist / Creative (Individual)

Sayon Camara is an exemplary djembe player, musician, performer and teacher. Operating with boundless joy and a deep respect for the music he stewards, he has an intimate knowledge of the traditional music of his people, the Malinke, of Guinea, West Africa. He delivers a tone that is as clear as a bell with an impeccable sense of time. Sayon's programs are designed for all audiences, to increase cultural awareness through music (drumming), language (song) and movement (rhythm and dance). Students and audiences connect with the drum, themselves and each other as community, while learning or experiencing the traditional music of the village. The polyrhythms of Africa become accessible through Sayon's clear, consistent, joyous performance and teaching. All programs are designed to meet your needs. We are willing to work with schools, organizations and communities to make experiences possible from the visionary, practical and financial perspectives. Sayon is available for half day, whole day, week long or multiple week residencies and teaching at many venues as well as recitals, assemblies, workshops and performances.
