Institution/Business Type: Artist Colony

Sable is an off-grid artist residency, community space, and arts venue on Abenaki territory in The Green Mountains of Central Vermont.

Sable Arts Projects, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering environmental stewardship, healthy food, and a forum for the practice, development, creation, and sharing of arts in rural Vermont and beyond. We build from a foundation of collaboration, embodied practice, and environmental awareness to offer participating creatives and audiences new ways of engaging with art, the land, and each other. We explore ways of living simply, interdependently, and creatively on a daily basis. We share our work with surrounding communities through bi-weekly public gatherings and an end-of-summer showcase. We aim to inspire by creating inquisitive art and educational experiences for both resident artists and visitors.

Sable's Food and Art Fridays are our bi-weekly community gatherings featuring Fat Dragon Farm’s wood-fired pizza, work-in-progress art showings by Sable Artists in Residence, and live performances or showcases by invited Guest Artists. This year's headlining artists are all either from Vermont or Sable Alumni!

The Sable Project Residency Program provides artists of various disciplines space and time to focus on their art, engage with other artists, and share their work. Artists in Residence live communally on the Sable land, off-grid (without electricity or wifi), and contribute to the tending of Sable's gardens.

The Sable Ensemble is a curated group of artists who come together for three weeks in August and engage in an entirely collaborative creative process. The result of their work is presented at Water in the Wood at the end of the month.

The Sable Season runs from May - October, with the majority of programming June - September.
