Rebecca McGowan is a traditional Irish dancer and teacher in the Boston area. Drawing on the musicality of older-style step dance and the joy of social dance traditions, Rebecca is interested in exploring step dance as music and making Irish dance lyrical and approachable. Rebecca currently performs with her contemporary Irish dance company Rising Step and duet partner Jackie O’Riley. Together with Jackie O'Riley she was recognized as 2022 Fellows in Choreography from the Mass Cultural Council. Rebecca began step dancing as a child with Clare Sullivan, and later with Kieran Jordan and the Culkin School. She directs a non-competitive Irish dance school for adults in Cambridge and Arlington, MA.
