Pneuhaus is an interdisciplinary art and design studio dedicated to integrating experiences of nature and its wonders into the contemporary city. We draw on the science of optics to re-stage natural dynamics of light like rainbows, eclipses, and the processes of human vision through experiential sculptures and environments.
Our practice is attuned to shifts in the ways we share space, network exchange, and relate to nature. One driver of our work is the call to participate in those transitions by creating spaces for people to reground together in the vehicle of their curiosity. Our dreamlike installations guide visitors into the universe of their senses and the joys of sharing place together. We believe that moments of collective amazement cultivate a greater sense of home within community and the ecosphere, and that belief has been continuously confirmed by every one of our twenty-five large scale commissioned works. Our sculptures are built for the life of each site and change in tandem with the ambient conditions of light and movement specific to each space, in this way they can transform from encounter to encounter as the viewer changes position and the sun shifts overhead
As a small, dedicated team of makers we handle all aspects of design and fabrication in house ensuring utmost responsiveness to our client-collaborators at every stage. We are passionate about developing innovative material solutions that incorporate the lessons of nature in both form and function. With backgrounds in both fine art and architecture we build for real world use and safety. Pneuhaus is dedicated to playing a role in shaping a sustainable future and we strive to design structures that can incite maximal joy with minimal mass.
