Institution/Business Type: Artist / Creative (Individual)

I have been a performing singer/songwriter and folk musician since the late sixties. I have also been teaching guitar lessons since then, both privately and in institutional settings. From 1992-2021 I was a music teacher in Massachusetts public elementary schools.

Songs I have written are sung by thousands of people throughout the world, and have been published in many books and music magazines. I have received eleven ASCAP songwriting awards. My songs have received widespread radio play, both in the US and abroad. Legendary musician and activist Pete Seeger said: "I am a big fan of Paul Kaplan. I love his singing; I love his songs."

My folk music shows for schools and libraries and other institutions are "Songs of the Sea," "Songs for the Earth," "Story Songs," and "Folksongs Around the World." I also have a huge repertoire of songs that are popular in nursing and retirement facilities. Any of these shows can be tailored to cover specific subjects the clients are interested in. No matter what I am singing, I always include a participatory element.

I am a certified Musikgarten preschool music clinician, with many years' experience. I have also worked extensively with children on all parts of the autism spectrum.

I am a strong believer in the power of music to bridge distances of time and space and go straight to the heart. Learning about history and other cultures fosters the understanding that can heal societal divisions and empower young people to make positive change in the world.

I have performed in and also hosted many online events, and am very comfortable in that setting.
