Institution/Business Type: Art Studio

Mama Mia Making is a mobile ‘art studio’ business that hosts or joins events to provide the experience of ‘Relating through Creating.’  We plan and facilitate customized art projects to support building and celebrating interpersonal and community relationships.  We do this through workshops, recurring partnerships, private events, public ticketed events and vendor-style experiences.  We offer discounted rates to nonprofits

Who?  Mama (Rory) and Mia (age 11) have always celebrated and strengthened their mother-daughter relationship through creating together and for others.  In many ways, art has been a love language that Rory has passed on to Mia and encouraged her to share with the world around her.  Rory has over 15 years of experience in the non-profit world, managing various projects and programs (specializing in supporting folks with Intellectual disabilities, justice-system involvement, mental health struggles, youth and New Americans).  MMM is a ‘merger’ of sorts between Rory’s identity and experience as a single working mother of a headstrong girl, her passion for creating spaces of inclusivity and expression and her drive to create and share visual representations of love.  Mia, who is sometimes involved in MMM events (and sometimes otherwise occupied with her thriving social life) influences the spirit of all of the events and projects.  Mia is fiercely and unapologetically herself and naturally encourages the same in others.   Her empathy and compassion have been notable from a very young age.  She is chief officer of ensuring Mama doesn’t take herself too seriously or get caught up in ‘controlling’ the art versus enjoying it.

YOU!  Seriously, you!  Are you a stick-figure savant?  An ‘I-don’t-do-that-stuff-thanks’ bystander? Our favorite artists start as wary artists.  We are not in the business of creating fine art or even creating what we set out to create.  We fully enjoy the process of creativity, experimentation, expression and creative pivoting.  If we wanted to create exclusively with folks just like us, we’d just create next to a mirror- differences are so much more exciting and rewarding- we eagerly invite artists with a range of identities.  The only requirement is kindness.
