Judy Dunn is an oil painter who creates still life paintings, that don't look like the still life paintings we are most familiar with. Her paintings of objects often seem to exist in an abstracted landscape. The scale is much larger than reality, further distorting, and confusing the viewer's perception of what lies in front of them. By carefully manipulating her set-up, and perspective, she is able to disrupt the perception of the viewer. While accurately representing what is in front of her as she paints, she manages to create an other worldly sense in her paintings. Dunn's paintings are for the viewer who wants to engage and spend time with the painting.
Dunn works from studio space at Western Avenue Studios in Lowell, MA. She received a Post-Baccalaureate certificate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts where she studied studio arts, focusing on drawing and painting. She has worked in the past with polymer clay, recieving noteriety and awards for her jewelry and other work in that medium. She has studied at the DeCordova Museum School, the Worcester Mueum of Art School, the Danforth Museum School, as well as continuing education at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Dunn also has an M.B.A. from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, and a B.S. in Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
