Joshua Lacourse is an artist who seeks to bridge the widening gaps between pairs of individuals through non-verbal performance. In his often high intensity, physically demanding work, Lacourse strives to forge links of joy and kinship amoung performers, audience, choreographers, and passerby alike. In past works and moving forward, Joshua pursues the creation of a performance so beautiful, it possesses the ability to be inexhaustable in its interpretation, each one more wild, beautiful, more precious than the last.
Most recently, Lacourse conducted a month long artist in residency program with collaborator Pauline Jennings at Lake Studios Berlin (June 3-30, 2019, Germany), where they co-created and performed in two projects: 13 Minutes of Nothing (Give or Take) and Ein, Zwei, Funf und Sechs. The latter was a full evening, audience interactive duet offering a reprieve from the stressful daily grind by inviting strangers of all ages to work together and take turns rolling four over-sized dice in an energetic act of co-creation.
Joshua currently co-directs Wet Canvas with Pauline Jennings. Wet Canvas is a fledgling venture aimed at broadening audiences and connecting communities through free, accessible and inclusive dance performances in Burlington, VT and beyond. Together, Jennings and Lacourse co-choreograph works that are rooted in joy and fueled by a desire to unite individuals. They are currently developing a contemporary dance duet seeking to spark the fire of connection and blaze the trail of shared humanity between pairs of sentient beings, Two Chairs. The new work will premiere Sept. 2021 in Burlington, VT.
Today Joshua can be found in his childhood home, spending his days pouring every ounce of love and affection he can muster into Biggie, his newly begotten puppy. His evenings, however, are spent painting, writing, and hungering for an opportunity to share newly created, forever evolving works.
