Statement:

From the molecular level of material behavior to the psychological level of human behavior, my work is a response to the stimulating and contradictory, social and environmental conditions in which I find myself. My personal, feminine and cultural story presents itself through formal, spatial, conceptual and material qualities found in my sculpture and installation.

I grew up in the suburbs on the border of two very different American communities, I found myself drifting between a luxurious upper middle-class neighborhood and a very depressed one consumed by violence. I’ve witnessed and experienced both sides of the white picket fence and the grass isn’t all that green on either. I’ve constantly been advised with various phrases and idioms. I transform these idioms into sculpture by playing with their figurative and/or literal meaning.

I learned from a young age that if I wanted anything I had to work for it. I apply my mind and body to very vigorous materials that require hands-on, process-based activity. I need to be physically engulfed in this kind of labor to be granted any stem of satisfaction. My investment in the values of hard work is in tension with my doubts and questions regarding the traditions and ideals of the “American Dream”.
