Hailed "first-rate" by The New York Times, The Glorian Duo was founded in 1986 by Wendy Kerner Lucas, harpist and Donna Milanovich, flutist. The Duo presents a wide variety of delightful repertoire in concert and enchants audiences of all ages with engaging rapport. Trio concerts are available, too. Thematic programming is a specialty such as concerts focused on Impressionism, poetry, an historic era, Jewish music and more. The Duo also presents terrific workshops for children, master-classes for high school and college music students, and residencies.
Called by critics a stand-out treasure, The Glorian Duo won the Artists International Chamber Music Award, the American Harp Society Concert Artist Program and a National Flute Association Chamber Music Award. Their CD, Sounds of the Seine was released by Delos International to critical acclaim. They have been featured on numerous radio stations and have performed concerts, educational programs and residencies throughout America.
Additional Content:
Fantasie, opus 124 by Camille Saint-Saëns (1835 - 1921)
This lyrical and virtuosic work was originally written for violin and harp; Ms. Milanovich has adapted the violin part for flute. One long movement, the Fantasie's varied tempos and moods add to its great appeal.
Entr'acte by Jacques Ibert (1890 - 1962)
Ibert's music has elegance, concise form and expertly uses instrumental color. Entr'acte was written for flute and guitar but arranged by the composer for flute and harp. This tour-de-force has a Spanish flavor and is a favorite in the repertoire.
Le rossignol en amour by François Couperin (1668 - 1733)
This little French Baroque jewel has the charming title "the nightingale in love". Although originally written as a harpsichord solo, Couperin wrote that he thought it could be very pleasingly performed by flute and accompaniment.
Concert Piece by David Diamond (1915 -2005)
The great American composer David Diamond wrote this piece expressly for The Glorian Duo who premiered it in Paris, France. As Virgil Thomson wrote of Diamond's music, "This is music of artistic integrity and real thought."
Gymnopédie no. 1 by Erik Satie (1866 - 1925) solo harp
Although Satie was a contemporary and friend of Impressionist composers Debussy and Ravel, his music is highly individual, and still sounds fresh today. This delightful work is well known from its orchestral arrangement and is an audience favorite.
Syrinx by Claude Debussy (1862 - 1918) solo flute
This beautifully composed work exploits the nuances of shade and color that the flute can produce. Syrinx was written in 1912, inspired by the story of a nymph in Greek mythology.
