Teaching Artist, Lecturer, Learning Residencies
Everett Hoag is an accomplished multidisciplinary artist/ designer with 35+ years of experience in fashion, special events, costumes, and performance art.
“I’m passionate about teaching and inspiring young people and adults to respond to disruption in our changing world through design. Over the years, I’ve developed a variety of arts, communications, and leadership classes that support academic and entrepreneurial goals for environmental-friendly design.”
‘Mister E’s’ teaching and learning residency programs are designed to help students:
Hoag's teaching philosophy is based on the belief that the arts can help underserved urban core teens to develop the life skills they need to succeed. He focuses on SEL (Social Emotional Learning), mindfulness, and building a culture of curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking helping students to develop their own unique voices and identity.
Hoag is a visionary artist/designer who is constantly pushing the boundaries of his work. All Teaching Artist Residency Programs are adaptable and customized given the scope and range of an outcome-based approach. The goal is to guide each student in the exploration, adaptation, and transition of the arts to real life skills. Each workshop in a residency has a specific agreed upon focus and student's grade their own learning outcome rubrics. Professional development sessions for staff and educators are encouraged in each residency.
“I believe that the arts are essential for building a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future. That’s why I’ve been a teaching artist alongside my consulting design work all this years. Working with kids balances my ‘chi’ or life energy. Corporate message and events help fund my work but the true spirit of creativity is expressed by opening possibilities for youth. After all, its not what you see, it’s what you feel.”
Creating art in a safe space provides young people an opportunity to give moment-to-moment attention to mindfulness and process as they explore endless creative opportunities.
