My performances carve space in the world for impossible dreams. I draw from a long history in dance and new media technologies to create feminist dances that open portals into wild, new worlds. I create multidisciplinary, immersive, and interactive performances that capitalize on dance language to speak more directly with audiences. My experimentation takes many forms, but they all manifest as movement and body based dances that are fiercely driven by empathy.

I strategically wrangle with technology in my work for two main reasons.

First it is a feminist move to place myself in direct contact with an industry that is male-dominated. Secondly, I urgently demand more heart out of the technology that we are constantly using in performance. I explore how that could be possible in my work.

My dances function as an invitation for risktakers and players to collaboratively imagine a world they desire. Here are the forms that manifest and how they connect to my particular intentions in dancemaking. Installation spaces that I activate are often set in the round, which is an intentional sacred shape for facilitating equal interaction. I deepen the transformative energy through lighting and projection. At the same time that I transport the audience, I ground them in empathy that I cultivate through the close proximity to each other, and the performers. My stagework for the proscenium does not just present movement. Through theatrical and choreographic tactics, I breach the audience performer line to draw viewers into participation and a bone deep familiarity with the stories onstage. By design, the interactive films I craft get the otherwise passive viewer to actually want to move with me onscreen.
