Chinese Association of Western Massachusetts

The Chinese Association of Western Massachusetts (CAWM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting cultural exchange, community engagement, and the preservation of Chinese American heritage. Our mission is to foster a strong sense of identity and unity among Chinese Americans while providing educational and cultural experiences to the broader community.

We actively work with and support local Chinese art and performance arts individuals and organizations to promote cultural understanding. Additionally, we collaborate with towns across the Pioneer Valley and take initiatives to host multicultural events, highlighting the heritages and arts of various minority groups. These efforts foster collaboration and unity among minority communities, recognizing the importance of solidarity in addressing shared challenges and building stronger, more inclusive environments.

We are also committed to uncovering the hidden history of Chinese American immigrants and their contributions to the United States, beginning with the birth of the country. Our goal is to highlight these often-overlooked stories and create awareness of the vital role Chinese Americans have played in shaping the nation's history.

Our signature events, such as the Lantern Festival and Chinese New Year Celebration, bring together hundreds of participants to enjoy traditional Chinese arts, folk games, performances, and cuisine. These events offer an immersive cultural experience that educates non-Chinese audiences and strengthens cultural pride in younger generations of Chinese Americans.

CAWM supports new immigrants by providing resources and guidance on school-related challenges and community integration. Through partnerships with local schools and institutions, including UMass Amherst, we offer workshops, performances, and collaborative events that engage the local and academic community.

Our activities reflect our commitment to cultural sustainability, diversity, and inclusion, promoting understanding and appreciation of Chinese American culture across all communities.
