Cape Ann Improv is a North Shore-based improv group dedicated to bringing the art of improvisational comedy to the community. We believe improv is for everyone, and there’s nothing better than unleashing ideas, musings, characters, voices, and quirks on stage in a safe environment. Cape Ann Improv wants to bring the joy of improv to anyone willing to join us in laughter, risk-taking, and affirmation. We strongly believe that anyone can improvise, and even if you don't, you can always laugh with us. Currently we operate out of The Hive Community Center in Gloucester, MA and the Salem YMCA in Salem, MA. We perfom monthly shows and hold weekly classes at these locations, and are available to perform for you at your venue. CAI has taught improvisation workshops with teens at the Salem YMCA, The Annie Theater in Gloucester (both with support from a Beverly Cultural Council grant), Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, VT, and Sapient Boston. We've performed at The Theatre of Words and Music in Salem, the Trashfinder's Ball in Beverly, for youth groups in Ocean City, NJ, at PoetryFest 2013 in Salem, and at Peabody Veteran's Memorial High School, Endicott College, Gordon College, and many fine venues. Our members and alumni can be seen performing with The 5th Wall in Beverly, Instant Bingo in Doylestown, PA, at Improv Boston, and in short films, readings, sketches, and stage-acts all around America.
