Leah has been gardening and doing art since she was a young child. She started working using gourds as an art medium in 1999 after seeing a gourd bowl in a magazine. It just so happened she had grown three gourds the prior year.
She is a national award winning gourd artist. Although initially self-taught, she has studied with nationally renowned artists. She uses techniques, which includes carving, dyes, inks, wood burning, oil pencils, coiling, and rim ornamentation. She is always exploring new mediums to introduce in her gourd art.
She started Blue Whale Arts, LLC in 2004 selling her fine art, at local shows, galleries and through her website. In 2007, she expanded her business to selling supplies and tools as she found it discouraging and frustrating to find some of the basic gourd supplies needed locally.
Leah teaches gourd art in New Hampshire, gourd festivals, and private venues across the country since 2007. She enjoys doing presentations to various clubs interested in learning more about growing gourds and/or working with gourds as an art medium. Leah has been featured on NH Chronicle as a gourd artist and grower and has taught children, teens and adults.
Leah offers a wide range of classes or can create a custom class project or presentation for your group. Price is determined by project or presentation. Length of workshop or presentation can be 1 hour to 3+ days. Gourds are a great art/craft for any age. Contact Leah or check her website for more information.
