Institution/Business Type: Performance Facility

Available Potential Enterprises, Ltd. supports contemporary artists working in all disciplines, by preserving and supporting the spaces in which they create, perform and exhibit their work. A.P.E. was conceived of as a workspace for artists. Its "shape" was largely determined by the creative needs of the Northampton community, tempered by the strong commitment of its directors to the understanding that space, time, and protection from economic pressure are critical for the realization of new and original work. A.P.E. has always insisted that the work of creating is valuable in and of itself, separate from any economic return.

A.P.E. receives funding from box office receipts, sales of artwork, individual donors, corporate, local, state and national sources, as well as many in-kind contributions.

Media Gallery

Shiny, golden fabric fills a gallery with a grey floor and white walls. The fabric is suspended from the ceiling, creating triangular peaks and rippled slopes.
A black and white woodblock print showing a scene of destruction. A man stands in the foreground with his back facing out.
Cut felt shapes lie on a brown woven mat on the floor. A white woman's arms are visible holding one of the shapes. She wears a light blue shirt and has a tattoo on her right forearm.
A white man in a grey suit jacket and white shirt performs, manipulating a mixing board with cords coming out the back of it. His left arm reaches to the side. There is reddish light filling the space.
An art installation with a table filled with food on blue speckled plates, two mugs, a beer, and a bowl filled with squash. The table is covered with a white lacy tablecloth. In the background, a fuzzy, black & white video is projected on the wall.
A black and white image with a seated man silhouetted. He faces a dancer in a white dress. Her arms are extended and she looks up. Behind her, there is video projection showing hands scrawling looped, intersecting black lines on a white background.
Colorful flowers fill a foreground, and three black and white cutout images of white women in cut offs and crop tops stand against a tinfoil backdrop. Hands reach into the frame, one wearing lavender gloves, adjusting the flowers and the cutouts.
A gallery space has yellow, rippled video projections covering its walls. 6 dancers are in the space—two pairs of dancers are touching, one pair crouched on the ground. One dancer stands looking straight out ahead towards the camera.
