Institution/Business Type: Artist / Creative (Individual)

Antonio Rocha (pronounced Haw-sha), a native of Brazil, began his career in the performing arts in 1985. In 1988 he received a Partner of the Americas’ grant to come to the USA to perform and study with Master Tony Montanaro. Since then he has earned a summa cum laude Theater BA from University of Southern Maine and studied with French mime Marcel Marceau.

Antonio Rocha’s work is an eloquent mixture of acting, mime and voice creating a very dynamic and unique experience. The transitions in the works are very well crafted making audiences forget what is mimed or spoken. Antonio also uses his voice, not only to portray characters, but also to project realistic sound effects supporting the atmosphere in his work.

Mr. Rocha’s unique solo shows of stories and mime have been performed from Singapore to Canada, New Zealand to Austria  across six continents. Some of the venues include The Singapore Festival of the Arts, The National Storytelling Festival, The Kennedy Center, The Smithsonian Institution, The National Geographic, The Tales of Graz Festival in Austria, The  Dunya Festival in Holland, various schools and theatre venues in India,  schools in Kenya, Cape Town center for peace, The Fukugawa Edo Museum in Tokyo, The National Black Storytelling Festival and Conference as well as many other Storytelling Festivals and educational institutions around the USA  and Brazil.
