Dr André de Quadros is a professor of music at Boston University, where he also holds affiliations in the African, Asian, and Muslim studies and prison education He is the artistic leader of numerous choirs, including Indonesia's Manado State University Choir (Music Director/Conductor); the Israeli/Palestinian Common Ground Voices, Sri Lanka's Muslim Choral Ensemble, Boston's VOICES 21C (Artistic Director); Shanghai Cooperation Organization Countries Youth Choir (Co-Artistic Director); the US/Mexico Common Ground Voices/La Frontera (Co-Artistic Dir.); and The Choral Commons (Producer). He is also Artistic Director of the London International Music Festival and Conducting 21C at Sweden's Eric Ericson International Choral Centre.
As a scholar, conductor, educator, and human rights activist, Dr de Quadros's professional work has led to collaborations with the most diverse ensembles and settings in more than 40 countries, including working with professional ensembles, prisoners in the prison system, patients in psychosocial rehabilitation, refugees and asylum seekers, and victims of torture and trauma. He has served as Editor for Cantemus, Music of Asia and the Pacific, and Salamu Aleikum: Choral Music of the Muslim World (earthsongs), and Songs of the World (Hinshaw Music). Dr de Quadros has been published numerous times; his most recent book is Focus: Choral Music in Global Perspective (Routledge Press, 2019).
Dr de Quadros holds a B.A. from University of Bombay, Graduate Diplomas from Australia's LaTrobe University, University of Melbourne, and Victorian College of the Arts; and an M.Ed. and Ed.D. from La Trobe University. In 2019, Dr. de Quadros was a Distinguished Academic Visitor at Queens' College, University of Cambridge.
