Institution/Business Type: Artist / Creative (Individual)

I am an award-winning Boston-based picture-book author who writes both fiction and nonfiction. I offer lively, interactive presentations and workshops to schools, libraries, and community organizations on writing, research, and publishing, drawing on my childhood and the "stories behind the stories" in my books. I have a special interest in reaching children in underserved populations.

My latest picture book is Miss Hazeltine's Home for Shy and Fearful Cats, illustrated by Birgitta Sif, which was named a Highly Commendable Title by the Charlotte Zolotow Awards Committee.

I am also the author of Jubilee!: One Man's Big, Bold, and Very, Very Loud Celebration of Peace, illustrated by Matt Tavares; Mrs. Harkness and the Panda, illustrated by Melissa Sweet, which won a Cybils Award for Best Nonfiction Picture Book 2012; and Fritz Danced the Fandango, illustrated by Ethan Long.

My fees reflect a per presentation rate. I am happy to negotiate a day rate as well.
