ME
Shamou is a percussionist/multi-instrumentalist/vocalist, composer, performer and teacher of Persian descent. He creates music that fuses the traditional rhythms of the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean with the contemporary sounds of jazz, funk and house. As a solo artist Shamou offers performances, workshops and residencies for all ages. He also leads the world music ensemble LOOPIN'. His interactive presentations range from solo to duet, trio and full band performances that may include educational components covering geography, cultural and political history and how music serves as the connecting link between societies around the world. Shamou is the recipient of several Meet the Composer grants for the creation of new work. His residency work has been regularly funded by the Maine Arts Commission PAL program. Most recently, Shamou was commissioned to created an evening length score for NY2Dance Company's "Oasis".
