THE ILLUSTRATED LECTURE/PERFORMANCE SERIES has 3 programs:
1. "Adventures in Mime & Space: The legacy of Marcel Marceau." This show is a tribute to Rob's mentors Marcel Marceau and Etienne Decroux. Rob presents his memories of training with the masters, demonstrates techniques of the art of pantomime, and shows rare film clips of Marceau and Decroux performing and teaching. (90 minutes) “Fascinating, humorous, and poignant. This heartfelt homage to his mentor is as much a display of Mermin’s artistry as it is a tribute to the art of silence.” — Unadilla Theater

2. "Silents Are Golden" sheds new light on how the acting style of the silent film era was based on theater techniques of the day. Rob demonstrates pantomime techniques used by the silent stars. The program is illustrated with a dazzling array of clips from 100 silent films. (90 minutes) "A Visual Feast! A perfect combination of Rob's live commentary and demonstration, blended with wonderful film clips.” — The Green Mountain Film Festival

3. "Circle of Sawdust" is highlighted by stories from Rob's 40-year career in American and European circus, with rare film clips. The program balances performance with stories, providing a vibrant look at the lifestyle and traditions of the itinerant show . The show culminates in the backstory and hilarious history of Circus Smirkus, founded by Rob in 1987.
“The evening was poignant, personal, educational, funny, and thoroughly entertaining. Mermin provides engaging, eye-opening insight into a culture of legend we spectators know very little about. An evening that shouldn’t be missed!”

— University Theater, Galway, Ireland

Rob ran off to the circus in his youth, and has stories to share from a 40-year international career in circus, theater, TV and film. He is a NEFA grant recipient.
