Odissi is a graceful and lyrical dance form that engages the audience by creating moods and emotions based on Indian music, literature, poetry and paintings, creating the effect of sculptures coming to life. Originating in the temples of Orissa in eastern India, the dance was performed by "Devadasis" who were highly educated and skilled dancers and musicians. My presentations bring to life this ancient heritage through pure dance and Abhinaya- storytelling choreographies that are enriching, educational and intriguing.
I have been presenting at Museums, Libraries, Schools, Universities and Cultural Centers for over a decade. I strive to retain authenticity in the art form and yet also evolve to address contemporary social and environmental issues.
