Veronica Robles is a Mariachi singer by trade but has become a cultural icon for Latinos in Boston. She has effectively utilized the power of the arts and culture to bring the community together by raising awareness on the importance of diversity and she has empowered the youth by employing them and teaching them about their roots and cultures.
Her professional background includes Arts administration, Marketing, Community Outreach, Multimedia production, small and large scale Event planning. Robles is Co-founder and Director of the Veronica Robles Cultural Center that supports community action and economic growth in East Boston and offers Latin American arts and culture programming and provides jobs for youth.
On November 2nd 2019 Ms. Robles received the Ohtli Award. This Award is one of the highest and very limited distinctions given by the Government of Mexico. The award consists of a medal, a silver rosette, and a diploma. This acknowledgment honors people who have dedicated most of their lives and careers to “blazing a trail” abroad for younger generations of Mexicans and Mexican-Americans as they strive to achieve their dreams. Ohtli is a Nahuatl word that means “pathway”, or camino in Spanish.
Recently Veronica was selected as a Neighborhood Salon Luminary for the 2019-20 season with the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and was part of Concert for One presented Celebrity Series of Boston and named Person of the Year for Saugus by Essex Media!
From 2002 through 2014 Veronica co-produced and hosted a popular Television show entitled “Orale con Veronica” broadcast over 20 cities in the New England region and on Telemundo Boston. Currently the show broadcast on Super Boston 99.9 FM the first and only full power 24/7 radio Station in Boston also broadcast on Radio Vida 1300 AM and Facebook Live on Tuesdays at 10AM.
Veronica was honored by Mayor Walsh with a mural with her image on her Mariachi outfit on Pari Street in East Boston; Mayor also appointed her to the leadership board for the Boston Creates initiative and serves as vice-president of East Boston Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Advisory Board at Boston Harbor Now.
She has received countless awards that include the “Community Hero Award”, by ABCD, “Extraordinary Woman In Cultural Enrichment” by Governor of Rhode Island, and “2016 East Boston Woman of The Year” by East Boston Times. In the year 2005 Mayor of Cambridge proclaimed September 17 as Veronica Robles Day. She is the recipient of the 2016 Creative Cities Grant by New England Foundation for the Arts, 2012 Nominee to the Artist Fellowship Program in Traditional Arts by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. She is also a New England States Touring (NEST) Artist and She works with Young Audiences of Massachusetts, Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire and Hartford Performs in Connecticut.
As a singer, Veronica has performed at venues such as The Memorial Hatch Shell in Boston, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Providence Performing Arts Center and The Dallas Convention Center.
In 2018 Veronica was awarded the "Live Arts Boston" grant to support her project “Veronica Robles All Women Mariachi Band".The mission of this group is to deliver a message of Peace and Unity in all their performances and public presentations. In the summer of 2018, the group toured the New England region and performed at countless festivals and important venues such as Fenway Park and were featured at Mayor of Boston Annual Gala; they have received excellent media coverage by WUNR, The Ellsworth America, and Univision among other important outlets.
In 2019 Veronica Robles released a new music album entitled “Cuando sale la luna”, recorded with her all-women mariachi band and produced by Willy Lopez. The album includes 9 traditional songs from Mexico and one new song written by Willy Lopez. She also launched her first Youtube channel to share her music with her fans.
Veronica Robles is a woman of courage and principles; as a cancer survivor she lives her life to the fullest, filled with joy, passion, and love. Her work honors the memory of her only daughter who passed away as a teenager.
