Institution/Business Type: Artist / Creative (Individual)

Judith Black creates and retells stories that bring alive under explored episodes in our national heritage, ask listeners to question their own iron clad belief systems, support state standards ongoing cognitive, social, and emotional objectives through in school programs, and ultimately empower people within their world. As a creator of tales, Judith has been commissioned by institutions such as the US Dept. of the Interior, Mass Foundation for Humanities, NPR, The Morton Museum of Collierville History, and many other to originate stories that will communicate the institutions’ past, specific objectives, or celebrate their mission. She has taught the art form for 30 years, most of those on the staff of Lesley University’s Arts Institute. When working with teachers, she invites them to discover their own unique strengths as tellers and capitalize on that to use storytelling in their classrooms to both teach and reinforce the social fabric of their classes. Storytelling on a wide array of subject matter compliant with all state standards, as well as workshops both for teachers and students is available for grades K-12. Guides for teachers for post performance follow-up is available for school programs. Judith also offers one woman original theatrical performances on subjects as varied as aging, bringing up a child who is 'different' women of historical significance, and more. She has won numerous awards for her work and has been on the forefront of storytelling for many years.
