Bated Breath creates unforgettable performances for museums that break down the invisible, if inevitable, barrier between the audience and the material on exhibit through interpretive performance that engages almost all of the senses and brings relevance to exhibits without traditional methods of explanation. These performances create lasting memories of an exhibit that are direct, energized, aesthetically arresting and includes the audience as agent. For the last three years we have been specializing in producing these short theatrical works in collaboration with museums like The Wadsworth Atheneum, Real Art Ways, The Amistad Center for Art & Culture and The New Britain Museum of American Art. Our work is winning awards and bringing audiences to their feet: In June, 2015, the Connecticut League of History Organizations recognized our contribution with an Award of Merit for "Freedom: In 3 Acts" originally produced for The Amistad Center for Art & Culture in Hartford and subsequently performed in numerous venues including the New Haven Festival of Arts & Ideas. We also tour "The Un-making of Toulouse-Lautrec" which was developed for the Wadsworth Atheneum’s French painting exhibit. Our newest piece, "Beneath the Gavel", that premiered at the New Britain Museum of American Art in March 2016 will have its Off-Broadway debut in March 2017. In March 2017, Bated Breath will transport New York audiences into the “white-hot” core of the fine art auction market. The audience gets play money, paddles, and bids on real works of art. The narrative follows the biography of a painting from creation to auction and is based on true stories from auction world insiders. Art world legends vie for wealth and immortality in power plays that have thrust the art market into the global spotlight. Using sound, movement, video projections, audience interactivity and more props than you can shake an intern’s broom at, the play gives the audience a unforgettable inside look at the only market — besides the stock market — to show up on the front pages of every major newspaper: the art market. Bated Breath is excited about partnerships with other museums and performance venues and thinks creatively about how to match your audience engagement goals with our unforgettable performances.
