VT
Very Merry Theatre began as an exciting idea many years ago as summer camps in Charlotte and Burlington and soon after grew into annual productions at most Burlington School District elementary and middle schools where Executive Director, Donald Wright, experienced the exciting creative possiblities of a whole school community working together to support their children's theaterical efforts. These early original productions served as stepping stones for VMT to become what we are today: a theater company for children, pre-schoolers to teens, that performs one-of-a-kind original plays as well as professional, licensed plays at our own performing arts studio in Burlington’s Old North End, at schools all over Northwest Vermont, and through our Burlington, Charlotte, Vergennes, and travelling wagon theater Summer Camps.
Our organization has grown over the years to include a small staff of artists, administrative support, and a board of directors, all who strive to promote the growth of a vibrant community by providing children of all ages and backgrounds with the opportunity to practice theater arts. Youth and their families, of all levels of experience, are encouraged to participate in any way possible, which can include set creation, costumes, makeup, and preformance assistance (stage crew).
At Very Merry Theatre, we are fostering literary and theater skills, self-confidence, and pride through the work and play that goes into creating theater. We cast every child who wishes to participate without concern for race, ethnicity, or gender. Many of our shows are chosen from the classics and we adapt a great many ourselves, which include orriginal music. This allows us to create many meaningful roles rather than just a few starring roles and allows for exploration of the story through themes, ideas, relationships, genres, etc. We also provide productions of licensed Broadway musicals, with opportunites for dance and singing-even a solo if desired.
Very Merry Theatre has come a long way since 1997 and continues to evolve and grow in our improved 20 Allen Street performing arts space, schools, and summer camp locations. As we continue to encourage all children to "take center stage", we look forward to working with new populations and welcoming you into our wonderful community.
