The United Society of Shakers is a non-profit educational corporation that operates the Shaker Museum, the Shaker Library and the Sabbathday Lake Shakers' Herb Department at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26, New Gloucester, ME, the last active Shaker community in the country. The United Society offers conferences, tours, exhibits, crafts workshops, demonstrations, concerts, special events. The Shaker Museum is open to the public from Memorial Day through Columbus Day. The Shaker Library, a research center, is open year round by appointment. The Shaker Library has an extensive Shaker collection of materials related to all Shaker villages with a particular emphasis on the Maine villages. The library also has a nationally recognized collection of Radical Christian groups.
