Poetry & Art Creative Workshops for Kids

For more than a decade, Ron and Amy Schmidt have delighted in sharing their passion for storytelling, poetry, and dog-centric photography with elementary school students through their engaging and interactive workshops that explore how creativity can inspire the creation of art and poetry.

Program Descriptions by Grade

For Kindergarten, Grades 1, 2 Program Length Per Session: 30-45 minutes

In these workshops, tailored by grade level, Ron and Amy share their creative process and how they combine art and words to create a book. The Schmidts discuss what it means to be creative thinkers and storytellers, leading the students through an interactive brainstorming and idea-generation session using Ron's art and simple forms of poetry from their books as examples. At the end of the session, students are gifted their own idea journals (from the Schmidts) to spark inspiration for creative drawing and writing.

For Grades 3, 4, 5 Program Length Per Session: 45-50 minutes

Ron and Amy tailor their programs to a grade-appropriate discussion of their creative process by leading the students in an inactive brainstorming, idea-generation session that covers sparking of ideas, character creation, storytelling, and poetry styles. Ron leads a discussion of his artistic process and Amy shares the writing process for poetry using several different poetic forms from their books. At the end of the session, students are gifted their own idea journals (from the Schmidts) to spark inspiration for creative drawing and writing.

* Please note: Due to the interactive nature of our presentations, our workshops are best presented to one entire grade (vs. a school wide presentation), delivered to up two classes at a time (about 40 students).

Pricing for 2022-2023: 

Prices below can be adjusted to meet the needs of the school/class/program sizes. Amy and Ron typically meet with one entire grade vs a school wide presentation.

• 1/2 Day Sessions - usually comprising of two workshops starting at $800.00
• Full-Day Sessions with a break for lunch - usually comprising of 3-4 workshops starting at $1200.00
