Maine Academy of Modern Music (MAMM) is a community-led 501c3 non-profit school of music. The Academy leverages contemporary music genres and teaching styles to offer classes, community outreach programs, dynamic performances, and festivals. MAMM fosters personal growth and community development, amplifies equitable access to music and music education, and enriches Maine’s creative landscape.

MAMM operates on a school of rock model to provide classes, lessons, camps, and ensemble experiences in contemporary genres such as rock, jazz, hip-hop, pop, funk, and others. MAMM primarily serves young people ages 8 to 18, with a target population of those struggling at home or in school due to language, cultural, social, learning, and/or income barriers. We also provide early education music classes for 0 to 5-year-olds and instruction for adult bands to reconnect with their enthusiasm for music.

MAMM has two Portland schools and several rural satellite locations. MAMM provides music education opportunities for over 2,000 students, with 1,514 of these youths receiving scholarships or participating free through partnerships. We also reach approximately 20,000 people annually through social service initiatives and community concerts.

Operating year-round in Portland and Bangor, and offering limited programming in Waterville and Maine's Washington County, we actively collaborate with public schools and service organizations. This collaboration goes beyond mere supplementation and extends to engagement in community projects and the production of events. For us, community partnerships are not just beneficial; they are pivotal for students' musical and personal development and integral to our organizational identity. We aim to empower students and foster creativity, as well as contribute to the overall enrichment of communities.
