I am an actor, dancer, choreographer, movement consultant, teacher who continues to expand. I began as a dancer. After graduating from the Juilliard School, I joined the Jose Limon Dance Company and gave audiences theatrical experiences with only the language of movement. Then I moved into acting training because I became interested in telling more literal stories with my voice and imagination. I craved transformation, playing characters I considered very different from me - rule breakers, rebels, villains, revolutionaries, royalty, soldiers. After my intensive stint in acting training at Brown University, I was lucky to have theater work regionally as well as in NYC. I also continue to work in the medium or television.
Then I unintentionally segued into teaching and have been deep diving into theater pedagogy (specifically in movement training for actors), sharing what I have been taught and encouraging young actors to be courageous and curious artists. I am currently a faculty member at the Stella Adler Studio in NYC, and have been finding teaching work locally, working with teens and children. I have been choreographing and doing movement consulting for professional and conservatory productions where I provide character development support for actors, as well as devise dance and movement with them.
While I danced I trained as a Pilates instructor and then as a yoga instructor. While I have been acting and teaching, I have studied three levels and taken some various workshops at Lucid Body House with Fay Simpson (and I still try to marinate in that work). I have done two levels of intimacy training and a Consent Forward Artist training with Intimacy Directors and Coordinators (IDC). I am interested in expanding into more mask work for myself and for my teaching because I remember feeling extraordinarily free in that work. To my family’s exasperation, I am not sure when I will stop adding techniques and tools or taking on various new job opportunities.
I am an artist who thrives in collaboration. Whether I’m working as and actor, choreographer, consultant or teacher, I relish in the task of creating with others, serving directors, writers, schools, the students, other actors. I am an artist who believes theater is meant to foster empathy in both the creatives and audiences. I want to engage in theater making that explores a world we may not be familiar with so that I and my audience learn something new and have a deeper understanding of our humanity.
