Jorge Arce and Raíz de Plena:
This dinamic ensemble plays and performs traditional Puerto-Rican plena-music and original compositions and arrangments by Arce. Their music features traditional plena instruments: panderos, guiro and Puerto Rican cuatro framed by the big Latin Jazz sound of trumpets and trombones and includes call and response audience participation. Jorge Arce and Raíz de Plena have performed over 1,000 shows at colleges, conferences, schools, arts centers, fairs and community centers throughout the United States and Puerto Rico including the Betances Festival, Festival Puertorriqueño de Massachusetts, the Lowell Folk Festival, and The American Folk Festival in Bangore, ME.

Comparsa Boricua:

The music is continue and supported by a moveable which permits the artists to surprise and to move through audience bringing the experience of a traditional and authentic Caribbean-puertorrican Carnival-celebration.

Dance Throughout Times: Afro-Caribbean connection of three Islands :Puerto Rico, Santo Domingo and Cuba.

This artist-residency will examine three dances and music forms: Bomba & Plena from Puerto Rico, Merengue from Dominican Republic, Haitian Meringue and Songo from Cuba. You can experience connections, similarities and diversity of these dances and these countries, while learning the dances and choreographies. A fun proposal against the "melting pot" theory.
