About Us: Founded in 2008, The Grey Court Poets is a popular Methuen-based poetry writers group that seeks to enhance our growing cultural community by providing an outlet for creative people living in and around the Merrimack Valley. The mission of the Grey Court Poets is to provide a forum where people can learn about poetry, have their writing constructively critiqued, work on poetry reading skills, and share and provide resources such as websites, books, magazines, and other poetry-related material. The Grey Court Poets also strive to be a major part of the local cultural community by sponsoring and taking part in public readings, workshops, and literary festivals.
Meetings: Regular meetings are held via Zoom on the first Monday of every month at 7 p.m. Prior to Covid-19 meetings were held in at the Nevins Memorial Library 305 Broadway, Methuen, MA. http://www.nevinslibrary.org and may resume there in the future. Our poetry readings and events have been held at venues such as Café Azteca, El Taller, The Spicket River Falls, Poets Wall on the Methuen Rail Trail, Mann Orchards, the Nevins Library, The Stevens Library, and the Methuen Music Hall.
What To Bring: Along with your poetry, feel free to bring a favorite book, website, magazine, news item, or writing resource to share. The first portion of each meeting is devoted to reading original work and gaining constructive feedback on poems that are presented. Please have your poem ready to share on your computer screen. The level of feedback you receive is up to you. The second part of each meeting is devoted to resource sharing and news from the world of poetry & writing. If you don’t have a resource or poem to share, please still attend. Just bring a willing ear and an open mind.
Membership: Membership is open to poets of all levels and styles. Poetry fans who do not write but are eager to learn about poetry and would like to be kept informed of literary happenings are invited to join as well. You need not be a Methuen or Merrimack Valley resident to join the Grey Court Poets. Just provide us with an email address for meeting updates and you’re in!
