David H. Montgomery Studio and Fine Art Gallery

The peaceful, riverside setting of Montgomery’s studio at his family’s boatyard on the Annisquam River, as well as the wooden boats still built there, inspire much of David’s artwork.

The studio and gallery are located in Montgomery’s former shop, where he built boats for over 30 years. A third-generation boat builder, David joined the family business not long after studying at Montserrat College of Art. In 2005, he decided to become what he might have been and returned full-time to painting.

Montgomery’s subjects are sometimes the very boats he built. He also is an accomplished portrait artist, who has been praised for his skill at capturing a likeness, as well as the character and personality of the sitter.
