COLONEL PAUL WENTWORTH HOUSE [ASSOCIATION FOR ROLLINSFORD CULTURE AND HISTORY]

  • N

    NH

Institution/Business Type: Historical Society / Commission

Originally built in Rollinsford, New Hampshire, the Col. Paul Wentworth House (c. 1701) was removed from town in 1936 and rebuilt in Dover, Massachusetts and has been missing from the town’s landscape for almost 70 years.

House owner, Ken Rendell, generously donated the house to the town in 2002. During the months of September and October of 2002, historic building specialist, Stephen Bedard, worked with his crew in Dover, MA, to dismantle the Wentworth house and return it to its native soil in Rollinsford. Steve was hired by the historical committee to take the dwelling apart, piece by piece, and transport it back to NH, where it it is now being rebuilt within sight of its original lot.

The Association for Rollinsford Culture and History is a nonprofit organization with a board of directors that has been granted section 501(c)(3) tax exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service. In addition to fundraising and overseeing the reconstruction of the house, the board will be planning educational opportunities for the public, such as lectures, and hands-on programs focused on the reconstruction process. ARCH membership is open to all.
