Institution/Business Type: Artist / Creative (Individual)

Some of Alicia Canary’s art explores how man’s detritus has infiltrated nature, and vice-versa.  Nature isn’t homogeneous or stagnant, but continually changes and reclaims man’s byproducts.  During this process nature herself is changed. Is this a new concept, or has nature always included bits of non-nature? In these works Alicia uses man-made materials, most often those that have been discarded by others.  Whether it is leftover thread, fabric remnants, scrap paper, second-hand books, or found bits of rusty metal, Alicia reconfigures the materials into “new” assemblages.  She then photographs the assemblages and digitally manipulates the photographs.  This process allows her to reconfigure the objects in yet another way.
