The Boston Redevelopment Authority Artist Space Initiative works to support the development and preservation of permanent, affordable artist space (work-only, live/work, performance, rehearsal and non-profit arts organization space) in the City of Boston. We use land use tools such as zoning, development review, mitigation/community benefits, development subsidies, outreach to development and artist communities to acheive our goals. This current project is to better understand the economic impact of the presence of artist work-only studios in Boston so that we can better advocate for their users and implement land use policies that support their presence in Boston's neighborhoods.
