ARTS COUNCIL OF TAMWORTH

Institution/Business Type: Arts Council / Agency

The mission of Arts Council of Tamworth is to inspire and empower our rural community through exposure to and collaboration with master artists and performers representing diverse cultures and art forms. Arts Council of Tamworth has been facilitating creative opportunities for the people of Tamworth and the surrounding area since 1966. The organization has changed with the times to best fulfill its mission. In this second decade of the 21st century, our work is unusual for a tiny nonprofit in a rural community—our programming is accessible to all, regardless of income, through free creative workshops for area residents of every age and ability, and Choose Your Own Ticket Price performances. Our work with local youth is still more unusual: we bring multiple artist residencies each year to an underserved school with a 54% free and reduced lunch rate and through our residency model build connections between the school and the larger community. We are committed to manifesting our mission through activities that meet a true need in the community, that do not duplicate services offered by other organizations, and that support other organizations with similar missions. We work in partnership with area arts and educational organizations and artists to create maximum reach and maximum access for our events.
